Books, and MORE books!

You know something is off when you wake up BEFORE 9 on a Sunday. Sigh, today marks the last day of my 1 week holiday, and by the time you read this, I will probably be back in KYUEM. Not that I am fretting about the prospect of it all, really. I'm excited to meet up with my friends again, and to get back into my study groove as fast as possible, since I will be having my finals for the next two weeks to come. Wish me all the best!

I just wanted to talk about what happened two days ago, Friday the..

*Runs to check the calendar*

7th. Friday the 7th! Thus, the effect of being at home is definitely visible.

So, yes, I was able to free myself form the study table to go for a book fair, named the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale with a couple of my friends. IF you haven't heard about it, you can browse through their website, but it basically is a really worthy book sale, where new(read: NEW!) books are being sold with their prices slashed to a minimum of 75% discount. It's heaven on earth for book nerds like yours truly.

But the ting was, I went without much expectation of the grand scale the organisers raved about the book fair this year in the papers, because I personally went( with the same group of friends, haha) to the one organised in 2009, and it was pretty modest, so I really didn't know how they would manage a larger scale event. Oh, I'm happy to say I was proven wrong.

At 4, we left for MAEPS in Serdang to avoid the supposed peak hours. As soon as we reached the doors of the hall, you could just feel that it would be a good day well spent. And I was right.

It was huge! the magnitude of the book sale this year, when compared to the previous time I went, was definitely quadrupled, or even more. It felt like Kinokuniya for a moment, with 1/4 of the price that is :D Stacks of books were sorted according to genre, sure, but I couldn't help but to feel a bit overwhelmed when we all split up to find our own individual books. I calmed myself down, but the excitement that was sure to ensue couldn't be contained. Hence, if you have spotted me in the halls that day( Or at least in the early parts of our time there) you would see me smiling and all cheery. It's books, what else can I say? :)

They had books of all kinds, besides academic books, which was a bummer, because I was also looking forward to buy a few A-Level books. But nevertheless, books were aplenty for the crowd present. If you read their article in The Star a few days ago, the organisers themselve believe that it might just be the biggest book fair in the world!

They even had a book for Steve Jobs.

I'm pretty sure all you readers have heard about his passing recently, after battling with pancreatic cancer for a while now. He was, no doubt, a visionary , one of a kind man who revolutionised the way we communicate ie iPhones, iPods, iPads, Mac etc , and also the creator of Pixar. He definitely will be missed.

We spent roughly 2 hours in the hall searching for books to buy, and I think one of the best tip you can take before going to the book fair is that you should free yourself from sticking to a certain author, and be open to trying new things. Ironic, seeing half of the books I bought ( 27 in total), were for my sister, and of the same author.

Behold,

The Nora Roberts Collection! Mixed in with a few of Cecelia Ahern's ( Author of P.S I Love You) books. You still owe me Rm60, sis! :D

I thought I was being over- enthusiastic about the whole idea of the book fair by bringing a large, IKEA worthy, reusable bag. But, mine was nothing in compared to the number of luggage I saw in the hall. God, it felt like KLIA at one point, but instead of clothes, they filled it with books. There were also some senior citizens ie Old makciks and Chinese Grandmas with their Pasar Tani( Wet Market) trolleys filled with cookbooks and what not. All that was left was for someone to shout, " hai, mari, mari, mari, lima 10 ringgit!" Of course it was more expensive that that lah

At the end of the day, I, together with Dhanya, had to carry a box full of books to the counter, and gladly found out how helpful the cashiers were. They definitely were attentive to the lost souls finding for an available cashier amongst the sea of crowds( read: me), and even offered to carry the box in my hands. Even when I was contemplating to buy this particular book, AT THE CASHIER( which Hannah didn't help at all, by saying "Eh, it's only 8 bucks!" ) they happily waited unti I decided NOT to buy the book. hehe. If I could give them a gold star or two, I would!

They even had this section where you could buy books and donate to the charity homes listed on the board. How cool is that? :D

Safe to say, I burnt part of my Duit Raya by coming to this event, but every penny was freaking worth it! If you're a book lover, and didn't know about this event until now, the sale is running from 7th to the 16th of October( Next Sunday), so try to find some time to go and grab a few books before the best ones run out, will ya?

I shall be getting my ass of this computer table and start packing for my trip back to college. I won't be blogging in a while, not until my exams are over. So, I shall leave you guys with the commencement speech Mr. Jobs gave, which had very good points that one can ponder. Bye!
